After growing up in Southern Germany, Dr. Fintelmann completed his doctorate at the University of Ulm in Germany. He then traveled to the United States for his Ophthalmology residency, which he accomplished at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then completed a Corneal and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) before moving to Phoenix.
Dr. Fintelmann has performed thousands of cataract surgeries, over two thousand vision correction procedures (including LASIK, PRK, and ICL), and hundreds of corneal transplants. His experience includes a wide range of refractive procedures: LASIK, PRK, implantable contact lenses (ICL), laser assisted cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange, . He has taught cataract, cornea and refractive surgery to other ophthalmologists.
Dr. Fintelmann particularly enjoys improving his patient's surgical outcomes by optimizing their ocular surface before surgery. He currently serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Associate Professor at Midwestern University. He spends his free time enjoying the outdoors with his two children and wife, Dr. Laura Snyder, a Neurosurgeon at Barrow Neurological Institute. Dr. Fintelmann is fluent in German, English, Spanish, and French.
He is a board certified in ophthalmology in both the USA and Austria.
